Concert Festival

The 2007 ‘Shoalwater Bay Concert for Peace’
SWAG is working in conjunction with other community organizations to hold a major concert on the 23rd June 2007 on the Yeppoon beachfront. Peace groups from all over Australia will be converging on Rockhampton at that time to protest against the joint military operation ‘Talisman Sabre’ held at the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area.
In
addition to nuclear powered warships armed with DU (depleted
uranium) and ‘smart bombs’, many military personnel will descend
on the area. It is the aim of the peace movement to outnumber
the forces of war in a demonstration that will turn the tide against the
militarisation of Australian culture. There is another way!
SWAG wants to capture the imagination of creative artists from all over the world, hoping they will offer their services in a cause dedicated to peace, care for the environment, and the demilitarisation of our culture and the world.
Importantly, we want to celebrate what we have, as well as protest against what we don’t want. Without offering a positive vision and constructive alternatives, our cause will come to nothing. To register an expression of interest to perform, exhibit, run workshops, promote, volunteer, document, etc, please contact SWAG – we’ll keep you updated on the details of the event as we progress.
The unique wilderness of Shoalwater Bay is worth protecting. What’s happening there symbolizes much that is wrong in the world. If the forces of the greatest war machine of all time can use a World Heritage standard wilderness area as a bombing range, weapons testing ground and place to simulate urban terrorism, what hope have we got?
Say NO to the Joint Combined Training Facility (a base by any other name is still a base) and join with SWAG in its quest to restore peace and sanity to the world.
Save Shoalwater Bay - Queensland’s Kakadu!
See you in June 2007 at the ‘Shoalwater Bay Concert for Peace’.
