Shoalwater Wilderness Awareness Group call’s for support
A big effort is needed to coordinate the thousands of local, national and international supporters expected to arrive in Yeppoon and Rockhampton for the National Peace Convergence in June. This is a non violent citizens action to promote peace, oppose the war in Iraq and to protest against the Talisman Saber War Games in Shoalwater Bay.
An organising and social function is being held from 2 pm on Saturday 2nd June at the Waru gardens on the Tanby Road roundabout Yeppoon. This meeting is to seek assistance and input for events for the 2007 National Peace Convergence being held in Yeppoon and Rockhampton from 16th June – 24th June.
Key support groups who will be involved are: The National Peace Convergence, Nuclear Free Queensland, The Australian Medical Association for the Prevention of War, The International Nuclear Policy Institute, Queensland Universities Australian Peace and Conflict Studies Department, Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett, State and Federal Parliamentary Representatives, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Australian Greens, The Wildlife Protection Association of Australia, Friends of the Earth, Just Peace Australia, The Quakers, Capricorn Conservation Council, Environmental Centre of Northern Territory and other representatives from Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Guam.

- Peace Flotilla to the Concert –Yeppoon Beach Sat 23rd from 12 noon. “From Surfboards to Battle ships” welcome.
- Cycle to the Concert- National “Cycle Against the Nuclear Cycle” group. From Rockhampton via Waru Gardens.
- Shoe Installation- by Yeppoon Youth – 650 pairs of shoes each representing 1,000 civilian deaths in Iraq. Various locations.
- Street Art and Performance – Pineapples for Peace Group and National Artists.
- Byfield Breakfast Rally- Sunday 24th June 8am
Coordinators and volunteers are urgently needed to help with the following things –
- Manning stalls and SWB Embassy concert stage and audio,
- Organising food and bar stalls,
- Banner and placard making,
- Street theatre,
- Mail outs,
- Advertising and promotion,
- Media tent,
- Information Technology,
- Billeting, car pooling, and transport.
